Cheap travel tips for a deeper traveling experience

I’ve been traveling for a while, and I realized there are easy ways to travel cheap but still make the most of your experience. The following list of travel tips will help you save money and time. Here it goes:

1. More time in less places
Why racing from places to places when you can stay at a fewer places and get to know the region well. I don’t think your intention on traveling is to spend thousands of dollars just to see the most popular attractions of a country and move on without seeing what else is there to see. Plus, transport can really eat your budget and the more you move, the less time you have to relax. Trust me, relaxing is important while traveling. You don’t want to end up with a burn out.

2. Ask the locals
The best way to know what’s going on in a city is by talking to the locals. By asking the locals you can end up having a free guide, receive good advices, or even get a discount somewhere! If you make the effort to speak the local’s language, it will make your life easier and they will respect you more.

3. Stay on budget
I know it’s really hard to stay on budget at home and it’s even harder to do so while on vacation. Nobody should limit themselves to just traveling for the sake of traveling, it’s therefor very important that if you don’t quite have the money to travel, wait another few months. You will then be able to do everything you would like to do without limiting yourself. You will be glad you waited a few more months when new traveling friend’s wants you to join them on an adventure that wasn’t planned and you can afford it. You will also be glad that you will be not paying for that trip 3 years down the road.

4. Get up early
Getting up early and see the city come to life is the best time of the day. It’s also the best time for photography since the light is less harsh. Plus, it gives you more time in the day to visit and see things.

5. Try not booking your schedule too much
You will want room for new adventures recommended by people you will meet along the way. If you are all booked, you won’t be able to switch your things around to have more time. Also, it cost a lot of money to change your dates of transportation and hotels. Plus, you might need a week to visit a city that you thought would only take 2 days.

6. Sign up for email notifications and become Facebook and Twitter fans
Easiest way to stay up to date with special promotions and save you money. You can also be notified of last minute deals on your next destination that you would miss otherwise.

7. Free days
Usually, museums or tourist sites have free open days/nights or discounted; use those days at your advantage. Why paying full price when you know that in 2 nights it will be 50% off?

8. Why not being paid while traveling? Or living from one wage?
The best way for a cheap travel experience is by making it a working holiday. On top of gaining new skills, you will experience a new culture first-hand, and it’s also a great way to fund an extended stay. Some couple lives off one wage and put the other away into a dedicated savings account. You are already saving for a dream vacation together, so why not! It may add up faster.

9. Cheaper transportation
The two cheapest ways to travel: walk as much as you can and travel like the locals. If where you go is at a walking distance, why not! It will be good exercise plus it’s a great way to soak up the local culture and see things at a slower pace. Public transport might not be easy to understand, but cheaper and it gives you a more authentic travelling experience.
