My friend and I decided, in 2010, that we would go to Europe together, someday. At that point, I already had a trip planned and asked her to wait at least 2 years to make sure I could put enough money aside for our trip. We didn’t talked about it until we went to the Bal en blanc in 2011. We drove to Montreal from Halifax, Nova Scotia, during a long weekend to go to the Bal en blanc. For us, it was a test. If we were still friends after that weekend, we should be able to spend 2 weeks together on another continent (it also helps that we have a lot of traveling experiences). After the awesome weekend we had, we wanted to go big for our next rave party: hit Sensation in Amsterdam and Ibiza. A 2 weeks vacations of partying and living at night.

Beginning of 2012, we finally bought our plane tickets. She let me buy mine first, and then she bought hers, why? Because she was sure I wasn’t going to do it! You know what? I bought mine wondering if she was actually going to buy hers too. When you want to travel with someone, always make sure everyone is on the same page and you are all up for it. Nothing’s more disappointing then people bailing on you and not being able to travel at the end.

After many hours of online research for hostels, activities, party tickets, etc. we were finally ready. We made it to Amsterdam as our first destination. We rented an apartment in a bed and breakfast, downtown Amsterdam. First thing we did after check-in: jump right in it and explore the city! We went for a 2 hour walk in a great sunny day. My friend and I ended up stopping at a local restaurant for supper and at the local supermarket. Gotta love buying local!

After coming back to our apartment, we took a nap, and got ready for Sensation. Sensation is a worldwide event, going from country to country, with thousands of people attending at each location (Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Italy, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, etc.) Now, 2 young women traveling together, going to a rave party... If that ever happens to you, don’t drink and stay away from the drugs. We didn’t had one drink (except water, it’s really important to stay hydrated) and we didn’t do drugs. What we did is make friends (preferably a group of old couple who could be your parents). They will keep you safe from all the weirdo’s/drunk people/etc… and NEVER leave your friend’s side! You don’t want to end up in trouble.

Sensation was a blast, a night to remember. We danced all night until 6am. Awesome experience! I was very excited to share that moment with one of my best friend. Also, seeing those DJ’s performing in real life was a dream come true. Another check mark on my bucket list! We spent all day after Sensation sleeping. Wasn’t such a loss since it was raining pretty hard. On our last night in Amsterdam, we met with our new friends from Sensation for supper in the Red Light District. The Red Light District was pretty cool with all those red lights, but how degrading for women…

My friend and I left Amsterdam for Ibiza, a little island belonging to Spain between Italy, France and Algeria. Ibiza is known to be THE party island. If you like techno music, beaches, and stay up all night clubbing, Ibiza is the place to be. The workers on the island are mostly students/young people spending their summer working and partying. A lot of the young people who goes to Ibiza are from rich families, and their parents are sending them there with their friends for a few weeks to «explore life». We met a few people from England, Spain and Italy; they were all younger than us.

First night we went out: Tiesto at Pacha. AWESOME!!! What a night to remember! Tiesto is the man! We came back to our apartment from the club waaay after sunrise and it was worth it. My friend and I did that all week, going to the clubs around midnight-1ish and coming back to our apartment around 5-6ish in the morning, sleep until 10am than we would hit the beach until it would be time to go get ready again. Needless to say, we were both pretty tired by the end of the week. Since we are usually not party girls, it was a rough but fun week.

Tips for you girls out there who would love to go to Ibiza: go with a group of girlfriends, don’t bring your boyfriend. I didn’t bring mine and I was glad I didn’t. Ibiza is a place where you go in a group of girls, or a group of guys. If you mix, it’s not going to be as fun. It’s just one of those things that you should make a girl’s trip out of it. Like guys going to play hockey together or golf!

Sensation + Ibiza!
